Scratches, dull spots, worn finish, and years of use can make a good wood floor look done before it really is. If the wood underneath is still worth keeping, refinishing can bring the surface back and change how the whole room looks.

That means you may be able to keep the floor already in your home instead of paying to tear it out and start over. Refinishing can also give you a chance to change the color or finish if you want a different look. But some floors are too damaged, too thin, or simply not a good fit for refinishing.
